SRC HAS INTRODUCED A NEW SET OF TOOLS TO CONTROL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION
The State Revenue Committee has introduced a new set of tools to control intellectual property protection which has led to an even more increased level of effectiveness of customs authority’s control over fake products to protect the intellectual property rights and interests of entities carrying out foreign economic activity. The set of tools introduced since June 2018 has automatically ensured 99% efficiency and has targeted 565 goods declarations for intellectual property. The customs authorities have made 149 decisions to deny release. To compare, release was denied only in 7 instances in 2017. Due to the new set of tools, the effectiveness of activities to fight illegal use of intellectual property and the accuracy of targeting have increased by 20 times.
To boost fair competition in free trade and to ensure full protection of intellectual property rights, SRC calls for right holders to register intellectual property objects. According to the law, right holders must file an application to the State Revenue Committee with a request to register the intellectual property object and to stop release of the relevant goods under any customs procedure.
SRC’s automatic control model designed to protect intellectual property objects is exemplary for EAEU countries. The innovative approach of the Armenian experts has gained such a high praise at the 6th international conference “Anticounterfeiting-2018” held in Moscow. It was offered to apply the practice in EAEU states, and the offer was approved by the participants.
