China is ready to respond to US threats to increase duties
China is fully prepared to respond to US threats to increase tariffs and take the necessary countermeasures to protect its interests, according to a statement by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.
Wednesday morning, Bloomberg, referring to three people familiar with the situation, reported that the US administration plans to propose the introduction of duties in 25% on imports of Chinese goods and services worth $ 200 billion. As explained by the agency, before that, US President Donald Trump wanted to introduce duties of 10% on an additional expanded list of goods and services, but such measures were considered inadequate by the administration.
"As for the threats of the US to further escalate the trade war, China is fully prepared for this, we will have to take the necessary countermeasures," the ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that China is ready "to defend the dignity of the country and the interests of the people, to defend free trade and the multilateral trading system, and also to defend the common interests of all countries."
